Introduction:

Sitabari fair is an annual fair that takes place in the Sitabari town of Shahbad Tehsil in Baran District.The fair holds an important and remarkable position among the local people as according to their believe this is the only place where Sita,wife of Lord Rama, spent her life of banishment.

Time to Celebrate:

Sitabari fair takes place prior to Dussehra thus falls in the month of October

Description:

The place is observed religious as during the banishment period of Sita when she was not allowed to live with the society, spent her time here and at that time, all water tanks and wells are filled from a spring of water which flows from a spot that Lakshman the brother of Lord Rama shot with an arrow in order to draw water from the earth as sita was thirsty.Since then these all area of Sitabari are observed as sacred till date and the water stream is called “Lakshman Babhuka”.It is believed that this water cures all sorts of diseases.
During the fair days, the devotees take holy bath in this stream to purify them.Though there are many kunds in sitabari but Suraj Kund,named after Sun God and Lakshman Kund desreve special mentions. Apart from holy dips, special pujas, recitations etc are other observations, performed by the devotees.Fair attracts many people for its business purposes also as it attracts many buyers and sellers to come and participate in various activities.
