Introduction:

Guru Ravidas was a great saint whose influence was among the prime contributers and actively involve in religious compaigning. Guru Ravidas Jayanti is the birth date of the Guru, who was born in 16th February in the holy city of Varanasi in state Uttar Pradesh. He was the true social reformer who raised compaigns against castism, social inequalities and untouchability. His followers came to know as Ravidasis.

Description:

Guru Ravidas Jayanti is the annual central point of gathering of Ravidasis, followers of Ravi Das Ji. On the Jayanti day, special programmes are organised majorly included social reforming activities like teachings, preaches as these were the prime messages of Ravi Das ji. On the main venue ie: the birth place of Ravi Das Ji there is an Akhand Path observed, the holy Nishan Sahib is changed according to the ceremony then followed by special Aarti and a whole day Kirtan follows in front of the portrait of Ravi Das Ji. After this a huge procession takes place and goes forward from all the major areas with singing hymns and devotional songs. Guru Ravidas Ji is the most  honourable Guru for Scheduled Castes in India. From childhood, he was immersed in spiritual activity and soon spearheaded the fight against discrimination based on caste and preached the idea of equality.
