The Charta festival is observed as the harvest festival of state Chhattisgarh in India. The festival is mainly celebrated in the Koriya district of the state.The festival is celebrated on the full moon day or the purnima of the month of paush of the Hindu calendar.

The Charta festival of Chhattisgarh is mainly celebrated among the tribal communities of th region to commence the harvesting. The regional people fill great excitement and ambience with their presence, they sing, dance and performs various rituals on the bank of nearby rivers. The carnival starts from the morning with the preparation of special mid day meal at people’s home. Later on the same day children of the village move in groups to different houses for collecting rice grains. The collection is then cooked by married females of the society on the banks of the rivers which is enjoyed and eaten as a grand feast.
