Akshaya Tritiya, is an important religious date of Hindu Calendar. It is also known as Akha Teej day, falls on the third Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Hindi month of Vaishakha. The auspicious date is generally comes between the mid of May every year.

The date of Akshaya Tritiya has important auspicious significance. It is celebrated by most of the religious Hindu communities of India. As per Hindus, This day is ruled by God Vishnu, traditionally celebrated as the birth day of the Hindu sage Parashurama, the sixth avatar (incarnation) of the god Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, on this day the Treta Yuga began and the river Ganges, the most holy and sacred river of India, descended to the earth from the heaven.
The occasion of Akshaya Tritiya brings good luck and success. It is believed that doing any cause for charity  today will result in best luck and good fortune hence the day is particularly set for new ventures by the people. Akshay Tritiiya is also an occasion for weddings, which are conducted in mass marriage ceremonies specially in rural areas of India. It is considered as an the most aboojha muhurut .
Although Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated all over the country but its great influence can be seen in the area of Rajasthan, Orissa, Bengal, Goa and Konkan regions. Fasts are kept on this day and pujas are performed by different rituals according to the respective regions. In charity, various household eatable items like fan, rice, salt, ghee, sugar, vegetables, tamarind, fruit, clothes, are given.
