Urs Festival Ajmer

Introduction:



Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti is the founder of Sufi order in India and in the commemoration of him,Urs festival is annually held at Ajmer in Rajasthan.It is the death anniversary of the Sufi saint and continues for six days. Night long processions and qawwali singing are observed during the festival at the venue of Dargah of Sufi Saint.

Urs festival is held in the seventh month of Rajab according to the Islamic lunar calendar (October-November)

Description:



During the Urs Mela in Ajmer, large procession of pilgrims are observed which are thousands in numbers. The Dargah of Moinuddin Chishti at this time is become the agglomeration of festivity and glory where people reached from each and every corner of the country and also from outside the country.The celebration of Urs started in the 1212 A.D. and from then it is celebrated every year.
It is the largest Muslim festival in India where maximum people reached to pray for the fulfillment of their wishes.Offerings include chadars and neema created by the devotees.Qawalis,mehfils,poetry, teachings and recitations are the other night long attractions held in the large hall in Dargah attended by thousands of people.
